Ricardo Bessa received his Licenciado (five-year) degree from the University of Porto, in 2006, in Electrical and Computer Engineering. In 2008, he received the M.Sc. degree in Data Analysis and Decision Support Systems on the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP). He obtained his Ph.D. degree in the Doctoral Program in Sustainable Energy Systems (MIT Portugal) at FEUP in 2013. Currently, he is a Senior Researcher and Coordinator of the Center for Power and Energy Systems at at INESC TEC. 

In the areas of renewable energy integration, smart grids and digital energy systems he worked in several international projects such as the European Projects FP6 ANEMOS.plus (2008-2011), FP7 SuSTAINABLE (2013-2015), FP7 evolvDSO (2013-2016), Horizon 2020 SENSIBLE (2015-2018), UPGRID (2015-2017) and InteGrid (technical coordinator, 2017-2020), and in an international collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory (2009-2012). He is co-author of 51 journal papers, 97 conference papers and 6 book chapters about renewable energy forecasting, decision-making under uncertainty and innovative digital solutions (mainly data-driven methods) for smart grids. He is a co-founder of a spin-off company called Prewind, which sells forecasting services for wind power producers.

Since 2011 is the SAP lead for Utilities in the EMEA region. In 2017 Miguel became the General Manager for the entire Energy and Natural Resources sector in EMEA North with end to end business responsibility of 4 industry sectors: Utilities, Oil&Gas, Chemicals and Mills and Mining.

Since January 2019, Miguel heads up the IBU Utilities at SAP, with Global responsibility on the SAP Business in the utilities industry.

Miguel is an active contributor to different working groups in Europe that are shaping the future of Utilities Industry, in particular to the ETP SmartGrids  (www.smartgrids.eu) and to ESMIG – European Smart Metering Industry Group (www.esmig.eu) where he drives focused initiatives. Also invited speaker in many international conferences, in particular across Europe, Middle East and Africa. In 2017 on behalf of ESMIG, Miguel became member of the Editorial Group of the Smart Grids Task Force for Electricity and Gas Data Format Procedures advising the European Commission.

Previously, as Team Leader Customers & Concepts and Deputy Head of Accounting, he was responsible, among other things, for the consolidation of the Energiedienst Group, the application of accounting regulations, and the technical SAP support and further development in FI. Marc Spieker studied and completed a doctorate in business administration in Koblenz (Wissenschaftliche Hochschule für Unternehmensführung – WHU) and Madrid and holds an MBA from the University of Texas in Austin. He joined E.ON in 2002, initially serving as an expert in corporate planning and controlling. After two years, he joined Sydkraft AB, the E.ON Group’s Swedish subsidiary in Malmö, where he supported the integration of the company in the E.ON Group. 

In 2006, Marc Spieker returned to Group Management where he served as head of department for controlling and reporting for Group activities in Scandinavia, the UK and the US as well as global trading. He then became division head in the Group’s energy business segment, overseeing the commercial and strategic optimization of the entire E.ON commodity portfolio. In 2011/2012, he served as CFO of E.ON España in Madrid, before taking over responsibility for the investor relations department at Group Management in 2012. 
In 2014, Spieker became project head of the strategy project One2two, coordinating all activities during the run-up and execution of the corporate restructuring project. He was responsible for managing everything from the “carve out” of Uniper activities to formulating and implementing the financial transaction in the capital market. 

After the successful IPO of Uniper, he assumed his new role as CFO for Renewable Energies. Since January 2017, Marc Spieker has been a Member of the Board of Management and since April 2017 Chief Financial Officer of E.ON SE. He is currently responsible for Finance, Investor Relations, Mergers & Acquisitions and Participation Management, Accounting, Controlling, Risk Management, Tax and the S4 transformation project.
